Hi Everyone,
Here is the assignment for the next two classes (Tuesday 5/12 and Thursday 5/14): 1. Watch episode 1 of the new PBS series "Asian Americans" 2. Story Time! One of the primary ways that parents attempt to socialize their children is through reading books to them. Many children's books contain an underlying moral or message, or address some other important life or social skill that will be important for kids to have as they grow up. Similarly, parents often turn to books to help address issues that they might feel unsure of how to handle with their children (topics like a new baby, death, moving to a new place, or divorce, for example). So most children's books hold socialization value because they help kids to become more proficient/effective/"normal" members of their society in some way. Read and think: What is the socialization value of these books? What are the lessons/skills/understandings that kids are supposed to learn from them? 3. Assignment #14 - Children's Book Analysis A. Choose a children's book to analyze. Choose a favorite book that you still have at home. If you don't have any children's books at home, many can be found on youtube (just search "children's books", or for a specific book title). B. Go to Google Classroom and complete the Children's Book analysis guide. Hi Everyone,
