HW: Study for quiz on the Sociological Perspective. You should be able to explain the meaning of the four main "concepts" that we have defined as essential to "thinking like a sociologist". Here is the link to the keynote with descriptions of each concept. Hi Everyone,
While I'm out today, please work on the following: A. In not already finished, complete Assignment #3 - What is sociology - Crash Course A. Short definition of sociology. B. Define "society". C. What does it meant to "see the general in the particular? D. What does it mean to "see the strange in the familiar? E. What is social location? What are some of the most important characteristics that influence a person's social location? F. What is marginalization? An example? G. What is the ultimate goal of "good sociology"? 2. Review the Sociological Perspective Keynote and prepare for a Quiz next class on the four main concepts of the Sociological Perspective:
You should focus your preparation on being able to explain the concepts in your own words, with an example to demonstrate your understanding. If you simply try to memorize the definition (without really understanding what it means), you will not do well. If you have any questions or are having significant trouble understanding one of the concepts, send me an email to let me know. We will do an in-class review in class on Thursday before the quiz, and I will answer questions before the quiz as well. One of the best ways to know you are ready is your ability to explain it someone else. Feel free to practice explaining the concepts to a classmate once you've studied to see if you can do it! 1.
